The OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) Program, started in early 2007 to produce low-cost, spartan, but always-wireless-enabled notebooks turned out to be an almost overnight hit with thousands of members of the public in the United States - and of course, the intended recipients of these notebooks in developing nations.
Through their successful 'Give 1, Get 1' program, where USA buyers would buy 2 XOs - one for themselves and one for a child in a developing country - OLPC sold 150,000 units to the public alone.
Because of this success and, may we say, almost a cult following, OLPC is seriously considering extending its 'Give 1, Get 1' program into next year, possibly for 2008's holiday season, not only in the US but possibly in Europe as well.
